How I started
Like almost everyone: through friends. Someone suggested joining the gym, we went out of curiosity and to do something together, and I stuck with it. I haven't stopped since.
Along the way, I've been to all kinds of gyms, tried almost every form of training that came my way, and got hooked on the obstacle races organized in Spain, which are another way of understanding training: there, it's not just about lifting, you have to run, grip, carry, and endure.
Why I ended up writing an app
For years I jumped from app to app and none of them quite fit me. Some lacked half of what I needed, others were uncomfortable to use precisely when you really use them —between sets, in a hurry—, and almost all of them solved only one piece: either training, or eating, or running.
So I started building my own. VortLoop was born just for me, with no other plan than to stop struggling with four apps at once.
After using it for a while, I realized that what I had put together made sense for more people, and I decided to share it. That's where everything else came from: the social aspect, the challenges, the duels, the community within the app itself. Because training alone gets long, and that was also a problem of mine before it became a feature.
What you will find on this blog
I write about what I encounter while building and using this: training, nutrition, habits, and the apps and devices we use to measure everything.
I try to make each text useful for making a decision. When I compare the app with others, I also say what the others do better, because no one believes a comparison that wins in all categories. And when I give data from a third party, it comes with its source and date.
What I am not
I am not a doctor, nor a dietitian-nutritionist, nor a certified trainer. What is here is the experience of someone who has been training for years and has delved deeply into the subject to build a product, not clinical advice.
For anything related to your health —an injury, a pathology, a diet with medical conditions— the correct answer is a healthcare professional, not an internet article. Not this one either.
If you detect an error in something I have written, email me at soporte@vortloop.com and I will correct it. Articles have an update date precisely for that reason.
